Privacy Policy

This policy covers the websites www.gap-system.org, docs.gap-system.org and files.gap-system.org.

This preview of the website is hosted on GitHub Pages instead, where the GitHub Privacy Statement applies and the section on server logs below does not.

We use no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. The pages of www.gap-system.org load all their fonts, scripts and images from our own server, so visiting them sends no data to third parties.

Server logs

The server records requests in log files:

  • The access log contains date and time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser configuration. It does not contain your IP address.
  • The error log contains, for each request that fails, date and time, your IP address, the address requested and the referring page.

The logs serve to keep the server running, to find errors and to detect attacks. They are deleted after seven days, are not combined with other data and are not passed on. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(e) GDPR in conjunction with § 3 of the data protection act of Rhineland-Palatinate (LDSG).

Data stored in your browser

  • www.gap-system.org keeps your choice of colour theme in the local storage of your browser. It is not sent to the server.
  • The manuals on docs.gap-system.org set the cookie GAPDocStyle if you select a display style other than the default. It holds the name of that style and expires when you close the browser.

MathJax in the manuals

Each page of a manual on docs.gap-system.org exists in two versions. The version with MathJax, reached via the link “MathJax on” and by some links from this website, loads the MathJax script from cdn.jsdelivr.net. Your browser then sends your IP address to jsDelivr. The version without MathJax loads nothing from third parties.

Personal data published here

These websites publish

  • names, and where provided email addresses and affiliations, of the authors of GAP, of the authors and maintainers of GAP packages, and of the members of the GAP Council and the Support Group;
  • the Forum Archive, which contains all postings to the GAP Forum since 1992 with the names and email addresses of their senders.

Write to the contact above to have your data corrected or removed.

Mailing lists

The mailing lists run on lists.uni-kl.de, which is operated by RPTU. Subscribing stores your email address until you unsubscribe. Postings are sent to all subscribers of the list, and those to the GAP Forum are published in its archive. Mail to support@gap-system.org is read by the Support Group and not published.

These websites link to services we do not operate, among them GitHub, which hosts the GAP source code, releases and issue tracker. Once you follow such a link, the privacy policy of that service applies.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access your personal data (Art. 15), to have it rectified (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18) and to object to it (Art. 21). Write to the contact above.

You may also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77). The one responsible for RPTU is the Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit Rheinland-Pfalz.
