Mailing lists

The GAP project runs three mailing lists. For other ways to get help, see Help & Community.

GAP Forum

forum@gap-system.org is for questions and discussions about GAP of general interest. The GAP developers read it and answer; other subscribers are invited to answer too. New releases of GAP are announced here, as are bugs that lead to wrong results which cannot easily be recognised as such.

Subscribing. Use the web page of the list, or send an email to sympa@gap-system.org with subject “subscribe forum”. To leave, use the subject “unsubscribe forum”; for further commands, the subject “help”. To change your email address, unsubscribe the old address and subscribe the new one.

Posting. Only subscribers can post, and the mail must come from the address (‘From:’ field) you subscribed with. This keeps junk mail out.

Archive. All posts since 1992 are public in the Forum Archive.

GAP development list

gap@gap-system.org is for discussions about the development of GAP and its packages, including package submissions. It is open to everyone; subscribe on the web page of the list. Its archive is visible to subscribers only. Messages from non-members are held until a moderator releases them.

GAP Support

support@gap-system.org is for questions that are unlikely to interest most other GAP users, and for bug reports by email (see Reporting issues). Anyone can write to it, without subscribing. Messages are read by the Support Group listed below and are not published. The list blocks attachments, so put log files and code into the body of the email.

Please do not normally write to the individual members of the Support Group. Each of them sees all mail sent to support@gap-system.org, a broader pool of people sees it as well, and the answers are recorded so they can help others in the future.
